Hike to a Desert Oasis
How can a harsh desert environment yield to a tropical wonderland in such a short distance?

Activities: Drive/ hike or horseback to Nacapule Canyon. Digital cameras and instruction are given to record and photograph the plant life as it changes from desert to tropical. Everyone will use the cameras, and review the photographed scenery when we return. Best photos posted on Ocean Camps web site.

Island Discovery -
Live Underwater Video Tour
Why are Mexicos Islands protected areas?

Activities: Charter boat to uninhabited island where we view the breeding grounds to birds and other sea mammals. On the way we search for dolphins, whales (seasonal) and sea lions. A marine biologist takes us on an underwater tour by lowering a live video camera to the oceans floor below, while we stay dry on the boat. What will we see? Fish, lobster, eels, seaweed, even a ship wreck!
Time: Half-day (approximately four hours)
Cost: $460 MP

Tide Pool Discovery
How many types of marine life will we see and photograph as we explore the shore?

Activities: A Marine biologist will help us explore the Inter Tidal Zone during low tides. We will use digital still cameras to photograph in and out of the water. Special live underwater video cameras will let us see under the ocean to search for more marine life as we stay dry on the shore. What will we see and name? Sea stars, Sea urchins, Shore crabs, Sea anemone, Dog Whelk shell, seaweeds and fish.
Time: Approximately two hours

Star Night Astronomy Workshop
Why can we see so many more stars here in the Sonoran Desert?

Activities: Basic astronomy lecture and night sky exploration using telescopes and computers to find objects in the night sky. The rings of Saturn, Moons of Jupiter, our own moon discovery, stars and deep space objects such as nebula and star clusters. We will also name and track several satellites as they pass overhead.
Time: approximately two hours, beginning just after sunset
Minimum: 10 students. Maximum: 24 students

Climb the Tetakawi Mountain
for Aerial View of San Carlos
Why is this mountain a spiritual place for the Yaqui Native Mexican Ethnic Group?

Activities: A somewhat strenuous hike and climb to the half-way point up the Tetakawi Mountain. No special equipment or skills needed, but long trousers and sturdy shoes are necessary. Your nature guide will identify desert plants, animals and reptiles as you make your way up the mountain from the ocean side. Bring your camera (or use ours) for beautiful views of the bays and San Carlos. Optional swim following the climb in picturesque Lalo Cove.
Time: Daily, 6:00 a.m., departure, approximately five hours.
